The New Engagement

     After his confrontation with Akane, Ranma waited until the next morning to talk to his father about it. Again, Ryouga decided to stay the night at the Tendo's. Ranma wasn't at all angry, though. In fact, he insisted that he stay tonight. Akane, still upset at what had transpired earlier in the day, was shocked at how Ranma was acting towards Ryouga. Usually he couldn't stand the thought of them together. "Maybe he really does want to break it off with me." Akane thought. Ksaumi was in the kitchen, as usual, making dinner. At around 7:30pm, she called everyone down so they could eat, but Ranma was the only one who declined. "I'm eating out tonight, Kasumi.", he said. Akane, looking a bit worried, asked, "Where are you going, Ranma?" "Somewhere to get far away from you!", he snarled. With that, he marched right on out the front door. Everyone looked around in a state of shock. That is, everyone but Akane, for she new why Ranma was so angry. Nabiki asked, "What happened?" Akane answered her, almost fearfully, "We...um... had an argument today." "That's nothing new.", Kasumi jumped in. "You two are always arguing." Suddenly Akane's voice got real jumpy and edgy. "I don't want to talk about, ok? Let's just eat!" "Ok!", everyone said in response to Akane. 

     Ranma was walking very slowly in the streets of Nerima. He couldn't decide whether or not he wanted some okonomiyaki from Ucchan's, or some ramen from Shampoo at the Nekohanten. Even Kodachi's poisonious food sounded good to him right now. All he wanted was to get as far away from Akane as he possibly could. "Ran-chan, you're lucky I was coming to see you, or else your neck would've been cracked." "Thank you, Ukyo.", he said. "What's wrong, Ran-chan? You never fall off fences like that." He has just realized for the first time, he never has fallen off a fence before, until now. "I guess it was just me looking at you, so cute and all, made me lose my concentration. No big deal." "No big deal?", she thought to herself, "Something must be really wrong with him for something like that to happen, and I'm going to find out what." Ranma just couldn't stop looking at Ukyo, and she was enjoying every minute of it. He was looking at her so hard that he almost didn't hear his stomach growling. "Um, Ucchan, can we go back to your place?" She looked with surprise and happiness at him, until he added," "I'm starving, and I don't feel like going home right now. Do you mind?" "Sure Ran-chan. Let's go", she answered, almost saddened by the fact that he wants to go home with her just for okonomiyaki, and not her. She thought to herself, "Will I ever get him alone, for me, and not for food?" Little does she know that her wish is about to come true.

     As they started on their journey to Ucchan's  she notices that Ranma is steady looking at her. "Kawaii.", Ranma thinks to himself. She starts to blush, so she slaps him in the back of his head with her spatula. "What are you doing? Why did you hit me so hard for?" he yelled. "Gomenasai, Ran-chan.", Ukyo said. "It's just that you were making me blush with the way you were looking at me." Ranma hopped back on the fence, and continued walking. For some reason, they walked by the Tendos on their was to Ucchans. Ranma really hated that idea, until she saw Akane outside, hanging up laundry for Kasumi. "RANMA! Where the hell have you been!" she said, with so much anger in her voice. "We were worried sick about you..." She was cut off at the scene that had just appeared before her. As she started talking, Ranma had jumped off of the fence, walked up behind Ukyo and turned her around. He grabbed her shoulder with one hand, and her waist with his other. He leaned forward and kissed her Ukyo very deeply, hoping that Akane saw this scene. Ukyo, startled by Ranma's sudden actions, didn't know what to do. Ranma, still smiling, just looked at him. Then he finally said: "Ryouga, that slutty bitch of yours Akane is waiting for you at the Tendous. Don't keep her bitch-ass waiting. Oh and one more thing. Tell her not to wait up for me, but if you're there, she'll probably be up half the night anyway." Both Ryouga and Ukyo had shocked looks on their faces. Ukyo was smiling very heavily inside. "What made Ran-chan say such a thing?", she thought  "Maybe Ran-chan and Akane really did break up. Oh God this is the happiest day of my life! I hope it never ends!" Ryouga was getting even  madder. "I knew Ranma was insensitive, but I didn't know he was that insensitive", Ryouga thought. "What if he knows what me and Akane did? I told her it was a bad idea, but I love Akane, and I'll do anything for her!" With that, Ryouga couldn't hold back any longer. "How dare you talk about your fiancée,  Akane,  like that! I wont allow it! Take this: BAKUSAN TENKETSU!" "Ran-chan, look out!" Ukyo yelled. Ranma wasn't worried. He was too happy to be harmed. He simply grabbed Ryouga's hand, and threw him against the wall. He broke the wall...with his head. "I told you not to keep her ass waiting, Ryouga." Ranma said. "I forgot to tell you, she's not my fiancee any more. Let's go, Ucchan." After hearing that, both Ryouga's and Ukyo's faces lit up with happiness. Ranma and Ukyo began to walk those last couple of feet to Ucchan's, leaving Ryouga in a mess. But he wasn't going to stay there much longer. He sprang up and ran to the Tendou's as fast as he could. "Akane, my love, I'm coming to you!!!", he said. Of course, it took him nearly 3 hours to get there.

      When they finally reached Ucchan's, Ranma wasted no time at all. He immediately sat down at the counter, waiting on Ukyo to get situated. "Do you have one with squid?" he asked. Ryouga was also happy, for he thought that he could move in and take Akane for his bride. However, Ranma hadn't told them the most important thing yet. He began to speak: "One more thing, everyone. I have decided to not marry Akane. but I will marry............" he stopped for a brief moment. Everyone held their breath, especially Nabiki. "This is it", she thought, "He's finally going to announce his engagement to me. I can't wait!" Ranma finshed: "I'm going to marry Ukyo." As he said it, he quickly looked over at Nabiki, for no one else's expression changed on their face but hers. For the first time in her life, she was feeling sad and sorrowful. He started to speak to her, but she stood up, and ran to her room, with a tear in her eye. "This will be my last night here, Mr. Tendo," Ranma said. "First thing in the morning I'm moving out, and I'm going to live with Ukyo." "Fine son, do as you will", Soun finally stopped crying and managed to speak, "I know you can't forgive what Akane did to you, and I'm not aking you to. All I'm asking is that you visit, and don't forget about us, ok?" "Sure Mr. Tendo", Ranma answered. With that, Ranma went upstairs and went to his room. Ryouga didn't know what to do. He was happy, yet he felt Ranma's hidden pain. He decided that he couldn't stay the night. So he got his umbrella and backpack, and left for the streets of Nerima. Ranma was in his room, and he began to write a letter, and it was addressed to Akane. It said: Akane, I hope that you're happy now. I didn't want it to end like this, but you brought this on yourself. I'm going to marry Ukyo Kuonji. I just proposed to her last night. The wedding will be sometime this year, but we don't know when. You can come, if you want. I've already told the family my decision. Good-bye, Akane Tendo.

     He finished the letter, finally. It was around 11:15pm when he completed the letter. Everyone was asleep in the house. Thank you for your hospitality these past few years Mr. Tendo. And dad, you can tell mom that I have become 'manly', so you won't have to commit seppuku, ok?" Soun and Genma both nodded, not believing that Akane's ex-fiancee was about to leave for good. "Tell Akane that I won't forget her, but i wont forgive, either", he said, as he finally started to walk to the door. "Bye everyone!" Ranma said. "I'll come visit whenever I can, I promise!!!"  Everyone waved good-bye to Ranma, and the gate closed behind him. He started walking towards Ucchan's, his new residence. He took one final look at the Tendo's, remembering the good times and the bad times that he had there. He turned back around, and began walking to Ucchan's, with luggage in hand, never looking back.......
