Even while being led, nude, from a leash by the disguised Artemis, she felt a sense of wonder at this high-tech city in space, and its peculiar inhabitants Artemis, still wearing the form of ratish alien called a Scarembli, tugged at the leash. "Don't look around," he said. "We can't risk making anybody suspicious." Mina hung her head and stared at the ground. As tired as she was, acting submissive was no great chore. Thinking about how this place was built from pillage of who knows how many ravaged worlds also helped dampen her curiosity. They had pushed their way through some sort of crowded market place, down an lift tube, and through a wide somberly light corridor -- actually paneled with a very dark wood, rather than metal and plastic. The floor here was even a plush carpet material, which Mina's sore feet where grateful for. She had no idea where they were and had to trust that Artemis, somehow, knew what he was doing. She continued to look downwards as a door slid open in front of them and they entered a tall chamber. Out of the corner of her eye, Mina caught glimpses of mirrors, crystal, and walls hung with something like tapestries covered complex but subtly colored geometric patterns. She also noticed some... thing standing in front of them and could not help but look up at it. It resembled an emaciated bear in black tunic and pants, and, while snarling at first, it immediately began bowing and bobbing its head obsequiously. "I am certain you found your tour of the station agreeable, yes..?" the alien said. "And you've already made a purchase..." It bared its teeth in Mina's direction. "I told you, I certainly did... The Shreen have something to offer everyone!" "And do you," sneered Artemis. "Offer me a chance to return to milady's quarters -- or must I hire the Shreen to get you the hell out of my way?" The alien jumped back, but then tried to laugh. "Heh...heh... Here, allow me..." It walked to one of the tapestries and swished a boney finger across it. The design split apart and the fabric rolled aside, revealing a slopping corridor beyond. Without a further word, Artemis began to walk up to the "doorway." "And...ah...ah..." the bear began, trying to catch Artemis's attention. "Ah... The Lady... The Most Majestic Domerel Lady... She is... satisfied with the accommodations... She is...?" Artemis turned and glared with beady yellow eyes. "You can be certain that you will be *promptly* informed is anything is not to milady's liking." The alien backed away, bowing, bowing, bowing... The hallway beyond was lined with widely spaced, rectangular indentations that had to be doorways of some sort, though there were no noticeable knobs, handles or latches. Artemis approached one, placed his paw on it and the wood-like material became suddenly fluid and flowed open, revealing a chamber beyond. It flowed back behind them. The room inside had no definite shape, but was rather an indefinite space divided by hanging curtains and columnar protrusions set with metal control panels, display screens, and less definable bits of technology. "We're here," said Artemis. He dropped the leash, and with a sigh of relief let himself switch back to his normal form. Mina lead back against one of the curving walls. "Artemis... This place... How... Something stirred from behind one of the curtained off sections. The pale fabric parted and a round face framed by pink bangs popped out. "Mina!" cried a delighted, high-pitched voice. "Artemis found you!" "Rini..." said Mina, barely able to make her mouth work. The little girl giggled. "Gee, Mina -- what happened to your clothes!" She wagged her finger scoldingly. "You're going to get into trouble playing like that!" A flash of black jumped out in front of her. "Rini!" said Luna. "It is past your bed time! You need to get your sleep. And so does Mina, she's very tired too!" Rini frowned. "But I wanna find out why she's been gone so long! And if she knows where that stupid Serena has gotten herself.." Luna began to push against Rini's shoulder with her head. "Plenty of time in the morning, young lady. Get back in bed!" Rini looked up. Mina smiled and gave a thumbs up sign. "Better listen to her, kiddo. Trust me, there's no arguing with these cats!" Rini rubbed her eyes and nodded... "Okay... You better get your pajamas on though..." "I.. will, Rini... sleep well..." The girl vanished back behind the curtains again. Mina spun to confront Artemis who sat beside her. A burning flare of rage was starting to build with in her. "My... god... I don't believe it... How... How could you... bring Rini to a place like.. this..?" Artemis began to slide back away from her. "We... We had no choice... There was no other..." Mina was trembling with fury. "You... have gone completely insane..." She clenched her fist and was on the verge of striking her old friend -- but her exhausted body could not sustain her anger and Mina pitched forward, passing out before she hit the floor. * * * Consciousness returned very slowly. Memory accompanied it, and so Mina felt no need to hurry the process. She was warm and... floating? Yes. Her body was floating is some thick, supporting fluid. After the battering she'd been through recently, it felt indescribably wonderful. With great care she opened her eyes and saw a ceiling set with a mosaic of interlocking glowing tiles. "She's awake," Mina heard Luna say softly. "Mina?" said Artemis, just a little louder. "Artemis... I'm... sorry..." she said. "I tried to hurt you..." "It's okay Mina... You've been through so much. I know how much of a shock it has all been." "I still... I can't --" "Just forget about it. Buy me a new squeak-mouse when we're back home if you want to make up for something..." "Okay..." Mina said, blinking back a tear. "Where am I?" "Ah.. in the bath tub, more-or-less. You had a good night sleep, which I think you needed." "We better," interrupted Luna. "Start explaining some things to her. There's rather a lot to tell." "If I can stay in here.." Mina sighed. "Please go ahead..." The cats began to relate what had taken place after the Scouts had entered the Hellstrike WarpGate in order to stop the invading Shreen forces. "The Gate on our end," said Artemis. "Was left mostly intact, so we immediately began trying to study it to find a way of bringing you back. It apparently still held some information about the space/time coordinates it had taken you to, but when couldn't find away of activating it. The technology was too alien." "Rini was constantly going on about wanting to help rescue you girls," Luna said. "According to plan she'd been using the Luna Ball to convince everyone that you were all off on school trips. But she started to threaten to let things go back to normal if we didn't let her help." "Finally," Artemis said with a sigh. "We realized that we *did* need her help. We knew the danger... but we had no choice." "Okay..." said Mina, still with a little skepticism. "What was she able to do?" "Well, the Luna Ball was able to analyze the data stored in the WarpGate's computer, and used it to create a gate of its own to... here." Hearing that was enough to make Mina sit up in her bath. "What?" she said. "I know that thing's 'Kitty Magic' is powerful... But it can do *that*? Create a space warp across who know how far across the universe?" The two cats turned and looked at each other. "Ah..." began Artemis. "Actually... It's kind of hard to remember exactly how we did get here..." "I think..." Luna added. "Rini might have gotten... help from someone else..." "Someone else?" Mina asked. "What are you talking about?" Artemis stared a little blankly. "I.. almost remember a woman... Tall, with long hair and..." "A staff, or something," added Luna. "Anyway that doesn't matter!" The cats said suddenly in unison. "What's important is that we got here and started looked for you." Mina looked from one cat to the other, shrugged, and let herself slide back down into the soothing bath. The cats continued their story. Things had been very hard when they first arrived. The situation was grim until they met a lonely workman at the space-port. Rini was able to entrance him into "adopting" her and her two pets. While staying with him they had access to the space station's public data-network and they began to learn about where they were and who the Shreen really were. The station served mainly as a market and trading post where the Shreen sold their pillaged goods and slaves and where they negotiated deals and mercenary contracts with dozens of other alien races. As soon as they came across mention of a wealthy aristocratic species, the Domerel, Rini became excited by the idea of masquerading as one. The Shreen were soon to be holding one of their auctions and it would be reasonable that a Domerel Lady might be one of the special customers attending. "It was rather touch and ago for awhile," Luna said. "But with the power of the Luna Ball we were able to set ourselves up here in this hotel place. It strains the power of the Luna Ball -- and of Rini, but so far we've pulled it off." "Those jewels..." Mina said, a thought occurring to her. "That you... bought... me with. Where did they come from?" "Ah... Not proud of it," Artemis said, looking down. "But we stole them. Sometimes there are advantages to being a cat." "Everyone here is a thief or a pirate," Luna added. "So they must have been stolen good anyway." "Luna..." Artemis said. "You know that doesn't change anything..." "Guys," Mina said. "We'll face that karma later. Have you seen any sign of the other Scouts?" "We were hoping," Artemis said. "That this big auction the Shreen are having... Well that there might be some sign there. Seeing you in the public square was really the first lucky break we've had for awhile." "You have managed to find out a lot of information though." "Huh. That wasn't hard. The Shreen, they may be pirates and killers, but they are in charge here. They are proud of what they do. The data-net is full of advertisements offering their services." Mina closed her eyes and let the warm bathing fluid wash over her. Forcing herself to climb of this tub was only the first of the difficult tasks she was going to have to face... * * * Mina paused in the doorway. She tried to adjust the shoulders of the ill fitting white jump-suit she wore. She took a breath, and started running. After several long strides she jumped, rolled in the air, and landed in a hand-stand, legs sticking up high. Carefully she shifted her weight, and raised one hand of the floor. Wobbling a little, she bent her the elbow supporting her and pushed up into the air again. A half tumble and she landed on her feet with an exhalation of breath. "Bravo!" said her feline audience. "Not bad," added Artemis. Mina shook her head. "Not good either. I'm not half what Sailor Venus should be. And of course no..." She thrust out her finger in a "Crescent Beam" gesture. "Not a thing..." Dropping from the pose, her arm brushed against her breast and she winced. "Is... ah," Luna nodded towards the Mina's chest, where the metal rod that still pierced her flesh was all too noticeable under her jump-suit. Artemis quietly slipped away as he always did when this subject came up. Luna continued. "Is that thing what's draining your Sailor Powers, do you think?" "No. I can tell you I fought like hell when they were sticking it in, and I was already terribly weak." "I wonder then it's was something they put in your food. Now that you are here, the effects might wear off." "Maybe," Mina said skeptically. "If that was so, it seems rather odd that they didn't mention it when I was 'sold'." "You know..." Artemis said from across the room. He was standing on the control pad of a video/computer terminal that was set in a tree-trunk like column in the main area of their suite. "On the public map of the station, there's a lower level with businesses and places not run directly by the Shreen. One of them's a medical clinic of some sort I think. Maybe they can... remove that thing." "Hmm..." said Mina. "That might look rather suspicious. It's... all right for now. We have other thinks to worry --" A delighted shriek filled the air. From out of her curtained off bedroom, Rini came bounding over to Mina. She wore a brightly patterned kimono and at first looked as if she was running to give Mina a hug -- but she stopped abruptly, put her fists on her hips, and demanded: "When are we going to go rescue the others!" "Really soon, kiddo," Mina said. "As soon as we finish working out our cunning plan." Rini tilted her head skeptically, the Luna Ball drifting over to bob about her head. "You slept past breakfast. Now it's lunchtime. I'm hungry." "You know," said Mina. "So am I." The suite included a larder and kitchen area, and so the girls sat down to a meal of crackery bread, fruit, and a vegetable soup, all of which the Luna Ball certified as edible. It was wonderful to do something so normal as sit at a table and eat, but Mina's mood was still shadowed. The cats were clearly expecting her to take the initiative and plan their next action. And they were correct to do so. Mina sighed. While it was fun to team up with Serena and play the blond, she normally would have been please at the chance to take up her role as leader of the Scouts. Under these dire circumstances though... She would just have to hold tight to the hope that her friends were... at least alive, and still somewhere on the space station. Music tones interrupted her brooding. Rini was looking up as well. She gulped down a drink of juice and hopped off her chair. "That's for me!" she said, running off. Mina looked over, puzzled, at Artemis. The cat just indicated another bit of technology in the room. It was a metal ring, almost a meter across, mounted above another wooden column. The music was coming from it and a faint glow was forming in its center. Rini pulled a couch-like chair in front of the device. She climbed up and opened her arms to let the Luna Ball float into her grasp. She hugged it tight and whispered something. "Whoa!" said Mina, almost falling from her own chair as a wave of mental pressure throbbed across the room. She shook her head and blinked. She looked back over at... While the child had not physically changed, as she lounged back in her chair, Rini seemed to radiate such an aura of authority, nobility, and, yes, even decadence, that she was hardly recognizable as the same person. The face that formed in within the glowing ring was all too recognizable to Mina. "Majestic Domerel Lady Lapine," Lord-Captain Arlen said, his image bowing slightly. "My apologies for not welcoming you to our facility sooner." "Yes..." Rini said languidly. "Apology accepted. I would be foolish if I came here expecting social graces from a warrior class..." Arlen's expression showed no reaction. "We are rarely honored by your noble race here, but I am certain you shall not be disappointed. I understand have already made a purchase, even before our main auction has started..." "Mm," she waved a hand dismissively. "I heard some rumor about one of my staff doing such a thing. I am considering attending your auction... Though the play acting of the market place can become so tedious..." "We shall spare no effort, Majestic Lady, to make it an event worthy of your attention. We shall have many special events for our most esteemed customers." "The matter shall be considered." Rini made an intentionally theatrical yawn. "My staff will be in contact with yours as to the details, Majestic Lady." Arlen nodded again, and his image vanished. The air in the room was suddenly breathable again. Rini, who was again just Rini, jumped up and, giggling, began running and bouncing the Luna Ball in a circle around where Mina was stood. "Wow," said Mina. "That was amazing, Rini." "Ah," said the little girl. "That big bully thinks he's so tough. But I'm smarter than he is." "I'm sure Serena would be proud of you." Rini stopped. She looked up with a sour expression and then stuck out her tongue. She ran off across the suite, still dribbling the Luna Ball. "Wow," Mina said again, to Luna this time. "It can be... disarming," the cat replied. "But it takes rather a lot out of her. I worry about what effects the strain might have." Mina frowned. "Maybe you should have worried about it more before you brought her here." "Mina," Luna said tensely. "We explained that --" "I know, I know. I'm sorry." Mina sat back down at the dining table. Her appetite was no where to be found though. She put away the food. Luna found Rini sleeping in a corner of the suite and pulled a blanket over her. Artemis was again scanning the station's data-nets. "Mina... Luna..." the white cat called a short while later. "Shh!" said Luna. "Rini needs as much rest as she can get." "Please come over here," Artemis insisted. "I've found something." Soon they were gathered around the computer screen. Artemis sat by the control panel; Luna balanced on Mina's shoulder. A video channel was running on the screen. "What is..." began Mina. "Watch," was all Artemis said. His tail was twitching nervously and Mina realized he was not just being taciturn: he was terrified. The screen showed a wide oval shaped fenced-in area. Rows of seats crowded with aliens rose around it. It was an arena of some sort. Complicated blocky altar-like constructions were at either end. Flashing lights danced around one, a door opened, and three ugly creatures tumbled out. In shape and size they were rather like orangutans, only their skin was furless and thicker and more wrinkled that an elephant's. They ran and jumped about the arena, making a terrible racket. Windows began opening across the computer display bordering the video. They rolled with numbers and long lists of statistic. The opposite entrance flashed next. The door slid open. There was a pause, and a single figure stepped out. Her chestnut colored hair was uncharacteristically down across her shoulders, but the green and pink trimmed uniform was instantly identifiable. "Oh my god -- Lita..." Artemis nodded. "They announced the combatants a few minutes ago, so everyone could place their bets." "Combatants?" "This... This is the Gladiator channel..." Mina stared at the screen, her heart racing. The wrinkle-skinned apes noticed Sailor Jupiter's entrance and immediately began charging over, waving their long arms and snarling. Lita braced herself. As the first one ran up she grabbed its out-stretched arm, ducked low, and flipped the thing over her shoulder. A second creature dived in though and grabbed her leg. She tried to pull free, but the third pounced and threw its arms around her from behind. Lita let herself fall, crashing down hard on the alien holding her. Her leg also pulled loose. She rolled, was on her feet in a second, and started running across the arena, apparently heading for the other gate, as if it were a goal of some sort. The alien audience cheered and hooted. The ape creatures recovered fast themselves. One lunged, and managed to grab the back collar of Jupiter's sailor uniform. The cloth tore in a long rip down her back. Lita spun and kicked, striking the creature in the head with a loud thump. But another creature again took the opportunity to grapple her. "This isn't fair," Mina said as she watched. "She can't fight hand-to-hand out numbered like that." Artemis pointed at one of the number-filled windows. "The odds are still in her favor though..." On the screen Jupiter wrestled with the ape-creature. It grabbed a handful of cloth at Lita's shoulder and pulled, ripping her top and exposing her breast. She managed to get a good kick in with her knee, and the thing let loose its grip. It was impossible though to keep up with all the grabbing hands. In a moment she was being held back by her shoulders while another creature struck her sharply in the face with its fist. That seemed to daze her a little and Jupiter collapsed to one knee. Taking immediate advantage, one creature grabbed the bow at her waist and wrenched it off, taking strips from her skirt with it. The creature Jupiter had kicked returned the blow, tumbling her on her back. More hands began ripping holes in her uniform, tossing away the scraps of fabric. Her hands were pulled above her head, and a creature sat heavily on them. "Oh, no..." Mina said. "Surely they won't let them..." But to her deepening horror, Mina realized the audience was only growing more and more excited. One ape-creature was hopping around Lita. It bent and began running a long tongue across her face and exposed chest. It came to be bare breast and began to kiss and suck at it crudely. Lita only now seemed to be recovering her senses. She looked up and saw the third creature standing between her legs. It hopped and roared and a thick penis was beginning to protrude from the wrinkled flesh between its legs. Lita began to thrash and twist, trying to get away, but the creature slurping at her nipple joined in at holding her down, it and its partner taking and pulling back an arm. The third grabbed a booted ankle in each paw and pulled Jupiter's legs wide and high apart. It began to kneel, using its greater weight to push Lita's thighs back against her body. Its foot long cock jutted out, twitching. It began to prod against the cloth covering Lita's crotch, and when it found what it was looking for, thrust forward savagely, tearing though the fabric and into Jupiter. Lita grimaced in pain as she was impaled. The creature was having no easy time shoving its giant cock into Jupiter's tight sheath, but the creature's partners gave barks of encouragement -- as did the watching audience. Mina was paralyzed. She desperately wanted to look away from her friend being raped, but how could she face what her imagination would replace the images with? She had to face what was happening. The creature seemed to have stretched Lita as far as was physically possible and was bouncing up and down, her legs over its shoulders, her knees almost pushed back to her own shoulders when it thrust down. Sailor Jupiter herself looked as if the abuse had been too much. She seemed limp and near unconscious as the creature pumped her body brutally. Everything changed in an instant. At the apex of one upward stroke, Jupiter's body was suddenly tense. Her legs scissored tight around the creature's next. As it tried to pull away, she pulled her own hips back and then thrust up and back with every muscle in her back and legs. The startled creature was pulled out of her and was tumbled over her chest and shoulders and on to its even more startled fellows. As the creatures untangled themselves Lita was already running toward the goal. The ape-creatures where in furious pursuit in an instant. For a few seconds it was a contest of pure running speed. A flying tackle sent Jupiter falling hard, longer fingers grasping tightly at her calves. She pulled loose, but there were still three roaring, enraged creatures at her heels. Sliding forward on her knees, Lita reached up and slammed her fist against a glowing disk on the face of the gate. Lights flashed and sirens hooted. "She did it!" Mina called. "She won! Didn't... she..?" A panel slid open on the goal. But it wasn't as Mina was praying it would be, an exit. It was only an opening to a small compartment -- just big enough for Lita to reach her hand into... and pull out a short, wide-bladed dagger. The next grasping hand that reached for her tumbled to the ground. The maimed creature howled, clutching its wrist. Lita charged straight into it, ramming the knife up beneath its rip cage. It stumbled and fell over on to its back, blood fountaining. The next charging creature had seen the fate of its fellow but had too much momentum to stop. Lita spun, swinging her arm out wide. The knife slashed across the ape-creature's forearms as it raised them defensively. Lita kicked it in its exposed stomach and as it lurched forward, had the blade ready to slice up through its throat and under its jaw. The remaining creature stood stunned. It took one backwards step and began to run away. Lita leapt high and far and came down on the things back. It managed to continue for some distance as she rode it piggy-back -- and repeatedly stabbed down into its back and shoulders. Finally the creature simply toppled forward. Lita continued to slash at its back, until the cheers and shrieks of the crowd caught her attention. She slowly stood, the tatters of her sailor uniform, her skin, and hair all soaked in blood. She raised her knife and met the calls of the audience with her own triumphant roar. Mina was on her knees, vomiting up the last of her recent meal onto the floor of their suite. "Oh god... Lita..." she managed to say, her voice trembling. "What... have they done to you..? What have they done to you..?"
