"Count: One. Two. Three -- move!" A body swiftly leaping off the stone shelf were it had lain. It jumped over or kicked aside other bodies on its way. A final spring and destination reached just as the metal panel clanged shut again. Something else some how was there already, ahead of her. "Out of my *fucking* way!" A fist flying. An ugly crunch, a spurt of fluid, a squeal of pain. /Oh no... I think you hurt it.../ "Nothing would make me happier." Fingers now reaching deep into the wide bowl gathering two oozing handfuls of thick doughy substance. smell... food? get! hungry! HUNGRY! "It's got. No thanks to you. Shit, just stay asleep and we'll be better off." A wall of other desperate, grasping, kicking, biting forms was falling towards the bowl, but she had gotten all she could carry and was happy to let the others fight over what was left. None would dare take from her what she'd claimed. She crouched on her heels atop her narrow shelf, greedily stuffing her face with the dripping bread. hungry... more... more... eat... good... good! "Good? Tastes like shit, same as always...." /You didn't have to hurt that poor thing... There was enough --/ "Enough? There's never enough. Get there first and do the best we can." ours! strong! take! need! "Yeah, what she said..." /Will you both shut up! God, if you'd both shut up and let me think... All I need is a moment to think.../ The sounds of fighting and eating lasted many minutes before fading into the usual background of grunts and moans. Then, close, a sliding, a low wet whistling, and something warm and furry was pushing up against her side. attacked! frightened! run? get away! "Ick? You again. I told you..." The small creature put its head against her shoulder and whistled again. A finger gently stroked her tangled brown hair. Her hands closed tight on its thick neck... "Told you to stay OFF me!" ...lifted it, and hurled the creature to stone floor, where it made no further noise. /No! Why do you have to hurt everything?/ attacking! might hurt me. protect. /I think... I think it was just frightened and needed to be close to something... to not be alone.../ frightened? friend? we hurt? "Oh great, you're both going to cry again aren't you? Listen, I had enough of the damn thing. It just wanted to either eat us or fuck us, just like everything else in this hellhole." Another creaking... This time the massive door to the chamber itself opening. Light reluctantly leaked in. eat? more food? "No, there's no more food... Stupid bitch..." /It's them, isn't it/ As soon as the door was open enough, two nar-Shreen pushed there way in, brandishing long metal staves, the tips of which crackled with tiny storms of lightning. They quickly secured a perimeter in front of the door. As it opened the rest of the way, every eye in the room stared intently. A Shreen officer stood there, fists on hips, and slowly studied the room. The contrast between the normally darkened room and the brilliant light from beyond, all but blinded most of the chamber's inhabitants, but the Shreen had no trouble spotting what he was looking for. He pointed three times. One of the nar-Shreen advanced. There was snarling and hissing and spiting, but not a single move to attack or threaten the armored creature and its sparking, sizzling weapon. A six-limbed creature with a turtle-like shell over its back and head; a shaggy sphere with claws that dragged along the ground: the nar-Shreen separated them from the lurking mob and drove them to the front of the room. Then it turned to her. "Okay, we know the --" away! away! not go! hurt you! fight! FIGHT! "Shit!" /Don't! If we --/ Hissing, face a twisted rictus, she lunged at the nar-Shreen. It grunted with the impact as it blocked her with a plated forearm. Holding tight to that arm, she lifted herself and kicked out with both feet, catching the nar-Shreen in the stomach and actually staggering it. She immediately ducked under the arm, turned, and set her feet in position to throw the creature over her shoulder. She didn't noticed the nar-Shreen's other arm as it swung the staff around, its tip turned inward towards her. The charge was only enough to tickle the nar-Shreen, but her body convulsed in pain. It broke contact and let her crash to floor, still twitching. The nar-Shreen looked over to its master, who nodded. When she was able to see again, she looked up and saw the nar-Shreen standing above her. It put a heavy boot on her stomach, held its staff vertical in its fists -- and then shoved the tip down into the soft flesh of her breast. She screamed and thrashed wildly as blue arcs danced down the staff and across her chest. The staff was raised and thrust down repeatedly, mashing into both breasts and crushing into her nipples -- when the nar-Shreen's aim was good enough. When her cries had degenerated into hoarse gasp, the nar-Shreen raised its foot off her, bent to grab her hair, lifted her, and then tossed her towards the front of the room where the other two selections waited. The Shreen officer stared hard at the remaining beings in the room. The demonstrated lesson needed no further words of explanation. paiiinnn.... hurts.... hurts.... "Shit... Are you... really... expecting sympathy..?" /She doesn't understand. She gets frightened and --/ "She doesn't *have* to understand. To hell with both of you. Just leave it to me, okay? We do what they say and we survive." hurts... don't like it... go HOME... "This is home, you stupid cunt. Get to like it." /We can't believe that...I'm sure... If only I could think for just a moment.../ She and the other two selections were led down a tangle of corridors. Another nar-Shreen jointed them, and the officer directed each to take one of three. She was pushed towards a narrow door that slid open as she tumbled towards it. The room inside wasn't much bigger than a closet, but in the center was a small table on which was laid a neat pile of white, green, and pink cloth. "See! There's a match today. They don't want to hurt us. It would spoil their investment." She reached over and picked up the clothing. ours! our... uniform... put it on! put it on! She unzipped the back and began to step into the main white garment. She paused, running her fingers over the fabric. /This...is wrong. This isn't really ours... It's like they're mocking us by making us wear it./ "Who gives a shit? It'll keep our ass warm and keep our tits from bouncing around so much. That's good enough for me." No sooner has she finished tying the bow on her chest than the door opened again. Outside was... a cage. A cage of tall black metal bars with its own door pressed tight against the exit to the room she was in now. no! escape! don't like cage! fight! fight! "You fucking never learn do you. Not this time. We do it by the book." She stepped out into the cage and stood there, arms folded. The waiting nar-Shreen pushed a few buttons on a control pad in its hand. The cage door slammed shut and an electronic lock clicked tight. The cage itself was on a five-sided platform with began to hum and, with a whoosh of air, rose a few inches off the ground. The nar-Shreen began walking, the hovering cage following at his heels. /We... we're going to have to go fight again, aren't we?/ "We *are*? Gosh, golly, do you really think so? Gee, you're smart." fight? hurt me... hurt them first! hurt all of them... "Heh. Even a one track mind is right some of the time." /This is all wrong. Fighting... Yes, I know that is what we do. But why? for what?/ "To live. What the fuck else?" live. live. live. /There's more. There has to be. I'm so tired... So hard to think.../ She blinked as the nar-Shreen led the cage into the bright outside of the station's inner domed section. They moved down an access path that was sunk down a couple meters below ground level, open to the "sky" at the top, with a low stone wall on each side. Such paths led from the slave compound to the main arena complex. She was knocked backed against the bars as the mobile cage stopped abruptly. Something had vaulted over the edge of the upper barrier and landed in front of the cage and its guard... A figure, in white, a long mane of blond hair trailing behind her. "Who the *fuck* is that?" no! attacked! trapped! let me out! /What is she doing..? I... do know her?/ The nar-Shreen was startled only for an instant. It raised its staff and advanced. The blond woman easily ducked the bone crushing swing. She made a half turn and lashed out with an amazing high kick. "Nice move, sister... Too bad the side of its thick skull is not a nar-Shreen's most vulnerable spot. Ah... That's better. Right under the jaw." /She still didn't hurt it/ "Just not strong enough. Had her chance. Blew it." danger? hurt her? "All over but the screaming. What an idiot. Looks like she's just pounding on its chest like a fucking baby. Hell of a lot of good that will --" The nar-Shreen was stepping back. Its staff, somehow broken in two, clattered to the ground. The creature itself wavered, and then toppled over backwards. Its chest was a ruin of jagged cuts and gouges. The blond woman stood, breathing heavily, her white jumpsuit smeared with blood. She held... something in her hand. Her fingers were tight around some fat handle, like the grip of a knife, but above this was only a strange wavering blur. "Holy shit! A vibra-blade! Where the hell she get one of those? If only I had one, nobody would be fucking with me more than once." /She... I know her... Don't you recognize... If I could remember.../ coming! coming! attack us! no! trapped get out! fight! "Damn. We're just dead meat trapped in here..." The stranger cautiously approached the cage. She raised the strange weapon and slashed it through the locking mechanism, cutting the metal like butter. "Now! Our only chance!" run! run! escape! run! She barreled into the cage door, smashing it aside and into the blond woman who was knocked the ground. She leapt, rolled, and came up in a fighting crouch, ready for the next attack. "She's fast, but I'm bigger. That damn knife though. Break her wrist, dislocate her shoulder -- top priority." fight her! kill! stronger! /My god, this insane! She's... *helping* us. She's... our.../ friend? * * * Mina groaned as she got to her feet. Sailor Jupiter was hunched over a couple meters away, her whole body like a tensed spring. "Jupiter... Lita..." she pleaded. "Please.... can't you understand me?" She watched as her friend and comrade's face seemed to almost physically shift... A cold steely glare that softened into concern and fear only to lock up into a mask of an enraged beast. Mina held out her hand, and tried to smile. "It's me. You know me, Lita. Sailor Venus... We're Sailor Scouts... Oh please... It's Mina. We only have a few seconds..." Muscles in Jupiter's face twitched and her expression became even more confused... But Mina noticed her right hand was moving... Slowly, with quick jerky movements, the arm was raising, and the fingers reached out towards Mina... Mina gripped Jupiter's hand tightly, and with infinite relief, felt her rise up as she pulled. "Oh god, Lita... Follow me okay? Please just hold my hand and follow me? First we have to jump. You can do that? Jump and run?" Lita gave no response, but she bent and readied herself in unison with Mina... * * * "We are doing, you know, the absolutely stupidest thing imaginable." /What? Letting us be helped? Trusting someone?/ "Yes! What the hell point is there to this?" escape! get away! free! "Right. The concept is no doubt too complex for you, but we are on a fucking *space station*. Where the hell are we running to? Why do you think security was loose enough that the blond bitch got us through? You can't hide from the Shreen in their own goddamn house!" /She must have some idea, some plan.../ friend? help? hide us? protect? "I'll admit she has this escape route planned well. Clever turns, false paths... She must have the whole inner "city" here mapped out. Smart girl. Too bad its all a fucking waste. Are we just going to keep running this little obstacle course forever?" /We have to have hope. How can you wake up each day and not hope we might be free?/ "Free? You idiots are always saying 'free.' What's 'free'? There is *only* the arena. There is only fighting and killing and living." no free? only hurt? hurting? /I can't believe that. I know there's more... She's our friend. If there wasn't more, why is she helping us?/ "Helping us get killed, that's what she's doing. Kill herself at least. They may still want us back at the arena, for our cunt and for target practice at least." * * * The "city" within the domed enclose that was the heart of the Shreen space station, was laid out in a series of rings. At the center was the park and festival grounds, onto which opened the central administration offices, the main auction house, and the gladiatorial arena complex. Beyond them were bands of other offices, embassies, headquarters of merchants who dealt commonly with the Shreen. Past them were, in decreasing lavishness: officers' mansions, troop dormitories, and nar-Shreen barracks. Then homes and business of the some of the wealthier servant races and professional camp-followers who hung about the Shreen. By this point the neat grid of streets and blocks was becoming more disorganized. Buildings had been knocked down and rebuilt, new streets and paths made where convenient, markets set up at any wide lot or alley. The Shreen themselves rarely came here. Further, nearing the wall of the dome itself, things became even worse. Here were warehouses, sewage treatment systems, environmental controls, power systems -- all the support mechanisms that kept the "city" functioning. All were self-contained, self-maintaining, and tightly sealed from any outside interference. It had become though the framework for a squalid zone of outcasts, damaged creatures and refugees from deeds and crimes the Shreen couldn't care less about. Garbage piled up, not so much from the inhabitants, but from residents of the inner zones who sound it simpler just to dump it here. It was, in short, a filthy, vile labyrinth, and, as Mina had decided, their only hopes of evading capture long enough to slip into the network of access tunnels deeper into the station, and from there get to "Domerel Lady Lapine's" hotel suite. That would be the last place the Shreen would be expecting an escaped slave to run to. Whatever had happened to poor Lita, she at least kept following Mina, as long as she was led by the hand. Occasionally she made odd grunts and half-formed words, but mostly gave little notice of their surroundings at all. She seemed physically strong, showing no signs of tiring -- though Mina herself was beginning to feel the strain of following the torturously complex route she and the cats had planned out. They were nearing the rendezvous point with Artemis at least. She only had to point and Lita joined her in jumping onto of a large over handing pipeline, running across it a distance, and then hopping down into garbage strewn alley way. This area was particularly filthy. The alley was lined with stacks metal crates, many of which had been torn open and spilled rivers of rotting grain across the ground. Other stinking heaps of refuse,,e were piled between them. The two had to pick there way through ankle deep rubbish at several points. Mina jerked to a halt: Lita had stopped and stood rigid as Mina tugged on her hand. "Lita? What it it?" The tall girl was frowning, and sniffing -- something Mina by no means wanted to emulate; she was doing her best not to breathe at all in this place... * * * "Smell that?" /What? The pillars of rotting garbage?/ something else... remember? bad smell. "The first day... after the fight they were bringing one into the arena for the next match... I could smell it then." /I don't... Oh. Yes. There's one here?/ bad! bad! run! hide! "Several I think. Jharian milli-mantis. We --" A shriek from the blond woman, one of the mountains of garbage was cascading down as the thing nesting within crawled out. A wave of sour, acrid odor filled the air. * * * It was something like a many segmented worm, but with long jointed legs along the lower half of its body. The front pair of legs lifted off the ground and struck out at Mina like spears. She had no choice but to let go of Lita's hand and jump back, stumbling into another of the garbage mounds. More insect-armored limbs burst around from out of the rubbish and encircled her waist. The second monster moved out in the open, clutching the struggling Mina to its belly. The blunt, featureless head on the first creature waved back and forth above her -- then plates along the side of the "head" split open and dozens of tendrils burst out. It leaned forward and began running them wetly across her face and neck. "Oh.. ick.. AH!" Mina exclaimed, feeling new contacts. She looked down in horror and saw more clusters of thicker tendrils extruding from the lower parts of both creatures. They were prodding at and starting to squeeze her legs and lower body. Several found their way into the legs of her jumpsuit and began slithering up. More were working into her sleeves and down the front of the suit. "No... Oh, god... don't.." Tension rippled through the tendrils and they tore out through the thin cloth, shredding most of the front and lower half of Mina's clothes. More tendrils began stroking her. Several found her heaving breasts and both globes were quickly snared by multiple feelers, which began squeezing tightly and rhythmically. "Please.. stop... oh-EEEEARRGGGG!" Mina shrieked as one tendril brushed against the metal spike still in the tip of one breast. Further pain came from a nip at her cheek. She dared to look more closely and saw one of the tendril had opened a tiny mouth lined with needle teeth. She moaned hopelessly as more tiny lamprey-kisses were given down the length of her body. Her jutting nipples must have seemed particularly inviting as the two monster grumbled at each other and began to jostle Mina back and forth in their efforts to secure these morsels. They seemed to come to a compromise and were content with one nipple each to gnaw and suck at. Mina was making great shuddering sobs that shook her whole body. She was was dripping with sweat and slime, and her exposed skin was dotted with many lines of small bite marks. * * * She had ducked behind one of the stacks of battered crates as soon as the blond woman had released her hand. will get me! hurt me! run! "Not yet! They like to concentrate on one victim at a time. As long as they don't see us we're okay. As soon as I'm sure their busy enough with that poor bitch, trust me -- we're out of here!" /We... can't just run -- we have to help her!/ help? catch me. hurt me... /She's our friend... She helped us... We can't just let them.../ "Yes, we can. Look... They are about ready for the main event. That'll be our only chance..." * * * Tendrils were beginning to concentrate on feeling and clutching Mina's inner thighs, spreading them wide, as a new, massive tendril rose between her legs. It posed like a cobra for just a second before punching into her. "IYYYAAAA!" Mina howled at her violation. The slimy organ shoved as many inches as it could inside Mina's agonized vagina and then began rapidly pounding in and out, splattering its own thick ooze with each thrust. * * * "LET GO! You stupid fucking, cunt! Let me take us out of here now!" /No! They are killing her!/ friend? hurt friend? help? "And what do you think they'll do to us? How will getting our own cunt shafted too help her?" /You say fighting is all there is, why can't we fight for -- Hey look!/ "What? Ah! The vibra-blade! She dropped it when they first grabbed her" Action followed though immediately as she dove out of her hiding place, slid through the garbage, snatched up the odd weapon, and rolled into cover again -- not that the creatures where paying attention to anything besides the writhing body they held between them. She looked down at the knife. Its blade was a just a square tipped length of metal, but as soon as she found the activation switch, it sprang into life with a highpitched whine that soon rose past the threshold of hearing. "Now *this* is something. Almost worth the trip. Okay, we're --" /We are going to help her!/ help? friend? Her body began to spasm, crashing against the near wall, and falling to one knee, as an inner struggled jerked her about. /I am going to help her!/ "You are going to kill us all!" /My god. *Listen* to her./ friend? friend hurting... * * * The penetrating organ was pistoning in and out with increasing speed. A moment later a slimy fluid spurted and then gushed out from Mina's stretched slit. More drippled out thickly as the first tendril withdrew, dripping and and still squirting a little. A matching tendril from the second creature rose up in replacement and burrowed its way into Mina, taking up the pace where its partner had left off. Mina's screams were reduced to a low mewling and her body seemed to collapse, flopping and bouncing like a limp doll between the two creatures. * * * "We can't help her. We can only save ourselves." /No. Why? Why live for only that?/ no... don't... "This *is* our life. We can't save everybody. She didn't have to come here." /But she did. To save us. I know she's our friend./ ...forget...what... "Not here. There are no friends here... Just enemies and masters." /And you believe that? If you believe that why haven't we.. Why haven't *I* already run away?/ ...who... you... "SHUT UP! If you'd shut up everything would be simple! Fight, live!" /Shut up? Who are exactly are you telling to shut up?/ ...are... sailor... "I just... want..." ...jupiter... "Minaaa!!!!!" * * * As consciousness returned, Mina had a hard time telling where her own ravaged body stopped and the piles of garbage she laid in started. The last she remembered the two creatures had jerked her around violently and she'd wondered what new outrage they were about to commit on her. Then there something.. moving... loud barking cries from the creatures... She managed to lift up her head and force open her eyes to see -- It looked like an exploded butcher shop. Shell segments, limb joints, and severed tendril were splattered across the alley, all in a ring around the figure of Sailor Jupiter who stood, dripping with insect gore, the vibra-blade still active in her fist. Mina rolled over and, after a couple attempts, awkwardly made it to her feet. Her body and the remains of her jumpsuit were crusted with drying slime and whatever passed for semen in the creatures. The throbbing pain between her legs made it hard to walk, but she couldn't worry about that now. Jupiter stood with her back towards her. Mina limped over and said in a low voice... "Lita... are you all right?" The tall figure spun, the vibra-blade held high, her face again locked in that rigid bestial snarl. "Lita!" Mina called out, falling over back to the ground on her butt. "No, Lita... it's me!" "Mm...Mm..Mi...Mina?" Tears rolled down Mina's face. "Oh yes! Lita! Do you remember me?" Jupiter's shoulders shuddered and her stance relaxed a little. She nodded very slowly -- and then held out her hand to help Mina to her feet. She wanted to hug her friend tightly, but thought that might be a little too much, and so just clasped her hand warmly. "Poor, poor Lita... I don't know what they've done to you, but we'll help. We have a place to hide. But, we have to hurry. Tha... tha... this took too much of our time. And--" Something white flashed down from roof above them. Lita tensed immediately, but Mina's touch calmed her. "Mina!" said Artemis. "You were late and... Sweet Serenity! What has happened here... And to you! Are you okay?" "I... I've felt better... What's important is that we have to get Lita out of here." "You can say that again. There are Shreen patrols all over the place. I saw one heading down a route that'll have them here any moment." "Okay then! Come on... Lita..?" Jupiter was staring at one of stacks of metal containers. She looked to Mina and made pushing motions. "Slow... them... down... a little...." "But..." Lita was already shoving the stack, making it sway back and forth. She attempted at smile. "Go... Be right... behind you..." "I think she has a point," Artemis said. "Blocking this route may gain us the time we need." "Okay..." Mina took a slow step away... But out of the corner of her eye noting a hunched figure on the roof across from Lita. It was raising something in its hand... She opened her mouth to cry out but was cut off by a loud cracking and a flash of violet light. Reflexively she had dived for cover. Looking up, she saw Lita clutching a smoking wound that was burned across her shoulder. She felt her heart sink when she saw that Lita, rather than moving for cover, was only staggering, her body twitching, her face freezing into the mask of rage. She roared up at the sniper... From down the end of the alley came the tromp of running nar-Shreen. "Litaaaa... Get down...!" Mina said in a hissing whisper. There were more armored forms popping up along the edge of the roof... * * * The tableau must have held for only a fraction of a second, but in Mina's eyes it seemed frozen in time: Lita's body in mid turn, a dozen shafts of blazing color piercing her torso, seemingly holding her there, suspended. * * * The multiple thunderclaps faded, and Lita's body crumbled in a heap. Mina felt completely cut off from sensation as she watched the guards slowly approach where Jupiter had fallen. An officer gestured, and a nar-Shreen blasted another shot into the dark form. A foot prodded, and then the officer waved his hand and the others followed him off... Biting her lip, Mina rose from her hiding place and slowly walked over to where her friend lay... In a tangle of bent limbs and seared flesh, Jupiter hardly seemed anything human... Artemis bounded up, but Mina could only turn away and collapse against the alley wall. "Mina.." Artemis said. "Mina... Did you... You should look at --" "Look at what?" she cried, her sobs on the edge of hysteria. "She's *dead* Artemis. What *fucking* difference can anything else make! We went through all that hell and we ended up killing her!" "Mina!" the cat said as loudly as he could over her crying. "LOOK! I saw what happened. She wasn't hit in the head was she? Was she?" "Wha..? No... I..." "Then maybe her brain isn't damaged! If... There's that medical clinic on the lower level. If we can get her there, maybe their technology is advanced enough that they can still help her!" "Do... Do you really--" Mina shut her eyes tight and clenched her fists. "We'll try. We have to try..." She glanced down. "Oh god... We just have to.. find something to.. that I can carry her in..." * * * Cool air in constant circulation. Hidden, indirect lights. Gleaming metal wall panels of white and red and silver. Indecipherable racks of machines, blinking, humming, calm, peaceful... Mina burst into the room, her torn jumpsuit smeared with blood and filth, her hair tangled and snarled. She rolled the large canvas wrapped burden off her back onto the first flat surface -- a polished, immaculate counter top -- she came to and called in a heart rendering wail. "Help us! Oh Please! Somebody help us! Is anybody here!" Save from the placid clicks and drones of idle machines there was silence. Mina half collapsed onto the counter herself. "Please.. help us..." She said almost in a whisper. Something seemed to stir and divert the steady current of air. From a side passage a slight form appeared, a figure in a long red robe. Her gaze found the ragged, bloody shapes, crumbled in the room. Both female. One was falling out from a soiled length of canvas on the other, half-naked, was hunched over it. Both seemed lifeless. The shape on top actually stirred. The head lifted and she looked out through a mat of hair. The pain in her eyes flashed into astonishment as she shouted: "Amy! TO BE CONTINUED
